Canon S5 IS Digital Camera
Canon S5 IS Digital Camera.
The Canon S5IS is a point and shoot digital camera that has twelve times optical zoom.
IS stands for image stabilization, and this feature helps to stop shaky pictures and blurring when you are using the camera hand held. The Lens on the Canon S5 is large and the ccd is too. The lens goes out to about the equivalent of a 400 mm lens. There are quite a few Preset modes on the Canon S5 such as sports and portrait modes as well as a few others. In Movie mode the S5 will take a movie that has resolution of 640×480 with a frame rate of thirty frames per second. Burst Mode on the S5 takes a picture every 1.5 frames per second. Another name for this is Continuous mode. Just select this mode and hold down the button taking continuous photos. If you select Continuous LIve View you can see the pictures you are taking as you go along. This is very handy for fast action sports shot where the moving object is jumping around all over the place.
The Canon S5 has a self Timer which can be set for example to two seconds or ten seconds while you get the family arranged and jump in the picture yourself. The Time lapse feature can be programmed to take 1 picture every hour for example which will give you a time lapse sequence. The flash on the S5 just pops up and activates automatically. The LCD flips out and you can rotate for above head shots or you can turn it to the front to see yourself in the viewfinder if you are taking a picture of yourself or the family.
Function buttons lets you change White Balance, Bracketing, color or resolution. ISO button lets you change the ISO setting and can be set up to 1600 ISO. The Display button lets you change different display modes some of which let you see the shutter speed, aperture setting, and ISO speed. This can be handy if you have just taken a shot and what to see how it turned out and what settings you used so you can make minor adjustments for testing. The S5 has a REcord button for video. Just press the button to start and it will film video until you press the button again to stop.
Exposure compensation lets you adjust the exposure by degrees of a stop say for example one third of a stop or two thirds. The color accent mode lets you make one part of the pic a certain colour and the rest is black and white. You do not have to use photoshop to do this now.
There is an indoor mode as well as foliage mode on the S5. You can use sd or sdhc cards. SDHC means high capacity and go up to around 16 gigabytes at the present time. The flash shoe will use any canon flash.
I have just done some research and it seems that the best settings for image quality are to Use Aperture Priority - Av - at f4.0 to f5.6 with a focal length of 16.8 and an ISO setting of 80. This seems to be the so called sweet spot for the Canon S5 IS. I will try it out and see how my image quality is at these settings.
